Fund opened after station was fined by MVR 1 million

Former Kaashidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Jabir has donated MVR 50,000 to the RaajjeTV Dignity Fund, following the MVR 1 million fine slapped by Broadcasting Commission.

Jabir said that he had donated to the fund to protest against the Defamation Bill. The fund was deposited to the box by Jabir’s Yatch Tours’ Legal Department Officer Saffan Khaleel.

Broadcasting Commission fined the channel on April 6th and ordered to pay the fine within a 30-day period. The fine was slapped for broadcasting a live event during which a speaker made a statement that defamed the President.

The million Rufiyaa fine came after the channel paid up the MVR 200,000 fine imposed on a previous defamation charge.

The channel had also begun a petition calling for the dismissal of the current member of the Commission which is to be submitted to the Parliament.
