Five police officers have tested positive for Covid-19, and over 170 have been quarantined.

Home Minister Imran Abdulla revealed this during an interview on RaajjeTV’s Covid-19 coverage on Friday night.

Noting that police officers have been on the frontlines in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the minister said that five officers have tested positive for the virus and that 170 more have been quarantined.

He stressed that this has proven to be “a challenge” for the police force.

However, Imran said that police officers along with MNDF officers and health professionals, are required to go out and work to ensure the safety of others.

The home minister further praised their work, adding that they are putting themselves at risk in order to protect the people.

At least 20 MNDF officers have been infected as well, with a number of officers in quarantine.
