Covid-19 containment measures must be strengthened, says Dr. Sheena Moosa.

While new projections show a “surge” on May 31, the doctor said that social distancing is vital for the period.

“Containment measures must be strengthened within this month. The public also must be wary of this. Can only relax after managing this surge. It is very important that everyone follows social distancing rules.”

While authorities are giving permits for essential purposes, Dr. Sheena stressed that it is important for individuals to return home immediately after conducting the required work and to take infection prevention measures before interacting with anyone in the household.

Further, she noted that elderly people or those with chronic diseases have tested positive for Covid-19 after consulting at hospitals for other conditions, and stressed that this is very concerning. The doctor added that they were most likely exposed to the virus through an individual that had to go out for such purposes.

“It is very important for those that leave the house for essential purposes to take infection prevention measures when outside, as well as after returning home”

Calling on all to follow movement restriction measures, she said that this will be vital in managing the surge.
