Authorities have asked those that travelled via ‘Amaazu’ boat on April 15, to report to authorities.
The boat is to have left capital Malé City on this day, and its captain, a 49-year-old Maldivian man, has since tested positive for Covid-19.
This was revealed at Saturday night’s Covid-19 press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), with Dr. Ibrahim Afzal revealing that 98 people are to have travelled on the boat on April 15 and 16.
Dr. Afzal noted that 51 contacts have already been identified, and stressed that “aggressive” contact tracing is still underway as this could lead to additional clusters across the country.
Noting that they are yet to identify some of the passengers, they have been asked to report to authorities.
‘Amaazu’ boat is to have taken passengers to a number of islands in the north, they are;
- Maafaru, Noonu
- Henbadhoo, Noonu
- Miladhoo, Noonu
- Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu
- Velidhoo, Noonu
- Holhudhoo, Noonu
- Narudhoo, Shaviyani
- Funadhoo, Shaviyani
- Milandhoo, Shaviyani
- Feevah, Shaviyani
- Maaungoodhoo, Shaviyani
- Dhihdhoo, Haa Alifu
- Utheemu, Haa Alif
Some of these islands have been placed under monitoring, while work is under way to do the same in the rest of the places.
As part of the efforts to control a spread following the detection of a community transmission, authorities had had previously asked those that departed the city from April 15 to "self-isolate and report to respective councils".
