Action have been taken against over 120 people, for breaching lockdown, thus far.
At Thursday’s Covid-19 press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Assistant Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen said that 21 people have been taken into police custody for violating orders while 105 were fined.
Malé City has been on lockdown since April 15; the capital was placed under a 24-hour lockdown initially which was extended by 24 hours before being extended by another 14 days.
While a person found to have violated the director general of public health's lockdown orderwill face a MVR 1,000 fine the first time, repeat offenders will be arrested under Articl 533 (a) of the Penal Code.
Furthermore, Naveen said that 7,000 permits are issued each day, allowing one individual from each household to go out for essential supplies or other needs such as doctors’ appointments.
He added that 160 delivery permits were issued on Thursday alone.
