The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has compiled a set of regulations to publicize the identities of those that violate Covid-19 preventive measures.
The regulation states that the power to do so lies with the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru.
This includes the identities of infected persons, as well as those placed under isolation or quarantine and those that violate preventive measures.
There are certain clauses to look into, before publicizing names. These include, the possibility of controlling spread by releasing name as well the possible outcome of doing so as well as the effect on society if it is not publicized. Further, names will be disclosed if the director general finds that public health safety cannot be ensured without doing so.
As per the regulation, the director general of public health will be able to disclose full name, permanent and temporary addresses, place of employment, photo and illness of a person. This is to inform the public that the person is contagious.
The new regulation came into effect following publication on the government gazette on Friday night.
Speaking at Friday night's Covid-19 briefing, government's spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz urged all to be wary of the new regulation.
