The first Maldivian that tested positive for Covid-19, has recovered.

Dr. Moosa Murad announced this at a press conference on Sunday night, adding that the individual has tested negative twice.

Authorities on March 27 announced that a 38-year-old Maldivian man that returned from the United Kingdom had tested positive for coronavirus. He returned to the Maldives on March 22, a day after authorities made the decision to quarantine all returnees from abroad.

Hence, the man was under quarantine at Holiday Island Resort since arrival on March 22.

Three others who returned from the United Kingdom have also tested positive, and authorities decided to conduct tests on all Maldivians that returned from the nation.

The fifth Maldivian patient was announced on Sunday, a student that was evacuated from the Philippines on March 28. While these students were also quarantined as per procedure, they were tested for Covid-19 on Saturday. With one of them testing positive, all are to be quarantined for 10 extra days as contact tracing is conducted.

The new case raises the total number of positive cases to 20. And with the recovery of the Maldivian patient, 14 patients have recovered. The first 13 are all foreigners; nine Italians, and one each from United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany and South Africa.
