An Emergency Medical Response & Coordination Team has arrived in the Maldives.

The Ministry of Tourism revealed via Twitter on Wednesday that the team was brought in by the ministry and the tourism industry stakeholders, following discussions with the national task-force established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in light of the fast-spreading Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The team arrived on Wednesday and consists of two experienced doctors who will extend a hand to the technical advisory group of the National Emergency Operations Center and a coordinator well-experienced in the work to be undertaken against the battle against the disease, by the National Disaster Management Authority of Maldives.

The team will be working with National Disaster Management Authority of Maldives, in the country’s fight against the pandemic. The team consists of health professionals from the United Stated of America, the United Kingdom as well as South Africa.

The ministry has thus far established a 30-room isolation facility in Vilivaru alongside several others across the nation as well as thermal screening procedures at all entry points into the country.

The authority has also acquired the medical equipment and additional masks required by the NDMA for the operations.
