Majority of Aasandha coverage available abroad was used for cancer treatment, reveals Aasandha Company Limited.

Speaking on RaajjeTV's "Fala Suruhee" programme, Assistant Managing Director of Aasandha Company Ibrahim Rasheed stated that - according to the statistics of the past two years- the majority of people approved for medical care abroad were seeking cancer treatment.

According to the public healthcare company, other medical care services commonly sought abroad via Aasandha include treatment for eye diseases, neurological diseases and diseases of the urinary system.

The company's statistics show that a total of 5588 patients were sent abroad for medical treatment in 2018 while 7375 patients were sent abroad in 2019.

Rasheed disclosed that the company only approves treatment that is unavailable in the country and that this can only be determined by the specialist doctors from medical institutions where Aasandha coverage is available.

He further added that the company responds to requests for medical treatment abroad within 24 hours of application submission.
