While a bucket of water was thrown at the president's official car on Saturday, Maldives police has said that this "was by accident."

Authorities began investigating an incident of a bucket of water being dumped on the presidential car from a home in Henveiru ward while President Solih was out participating in Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) local council elections campaign poster event.

Police on Monday said that the incident was accidental and occurred whilst an individual was watering plants placed on the building's terrace.

MPS had previously stated that only the driver of the presidential car was inside the vehicle when the incident occurred.

During the 2018 presidential election campaign, Solih's team was attacked with engine oil.
