The parliament’s first sitting of the year has been scheduled for Monday, where President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will deliver the presidential address.
The sitting will begin at 9am, at the People’s Majlis building.
While the president is to deliver his second presidential address at the sitting, February 3 has been declared a public holiday.
Solih’s first presidential address was held at Dharubaaruge last year.
Article 84 of the constitution states that “at the beginning of the first session of each year at the first sitting, the President shall address the People’s Majlis on the state of the country, and may present proposals for improving the state of the country to the People’s Majlis.”
The 19th parliament took over from the second session of 2019.
