The Information Commissioner’s Office has formed a Whistle-blower Committee.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) revealed that a permanent committee, known as the Whistle-blower Committee, was officially established at the ICO on Thursday to ensure the rights of whistle-blowers.
The committee is comprised of Director of Legal Affairs Fathimath Sausan, Administrative Officer Mariyam Ibrahim, and Administrative Officer Shaffan Gasim with Sausan elected as the committee's chairperson.
This is the first committee to be formed under the Bill on Protection of Whistle-blowers, passed by the parliament on October 08th last year.
The bill defines the procedures applicable to whistle-blowing and the rights of whistle blowers in addition to the responsibilities of investigative authorities and other policies required to ensure a "culture of transparency and accountability".
