PPM ethics committee summons lawmaker for hearing

Pro-government MP, Mohamed Ameeth, who is under fire from his party for backing the no-confidence motion against speaker Abdulla Maseeh has said that he has been summoned to an ethics committee meeting.
In a tweet posted late Monday night, Ameeth said he had every intention to present himself to the committee and hold himself accountable for his actions. He had assured his intentions to remain steadfast in ‘guaranteeing citizens their rights’.
He has been summoned for 12:30 pm, 'Friday, the 28th of March' but given how that date falls on a Tuesday, Ameeth has since asked the party to clarify his summoning date.
Ahead of the vote, Ameeth had said it was his moral and ‘national’ duty to back the motion against Maseeh.
The Progressive Party of Maldives’ parliamentary group leader Ahmed Nihan Manik said he would pursue dismissal of the Maduvvari representative after the vote on Monday.
MP Nihan said the issue has been filed with the party’s ethic committee.
Ameeth was seen actively protesting against the roll call vote, along with opposition MPs, during the unrest in Monday’s parliament session.
