Most of the work to transfer the school, has been completed

The government has begun discussions to relocate one of the longest-serving government schools in the country, Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) to Hulhumalé.

This comes at a time the construction of the new building for CHSE has been tasked to Rasheed Carpentry and Constructions, and is underway.

The old building has been dismantled and the construction company has since halted its work as discussions are underway.

The company was contracted the construction of an eight-story building during October 2019 and it was tasked to complete the project within 420 days for a price of MVR 33 million.

RaajjeMV understands that most of the work to allocate a plot of land for the school in the capital city’s suburbs has been completed.

This decision comes following the government’s decision to expand the road on which CHSE is currently located, Lily Magu.

However, relevant authorities are yet to confirm the matter via a publication and the government is yet to publicize details of the region CHSE is being relocated to.

While over 1,000 students are currently attaining higher secondary education at the school, it was opened during 1979 as the “Science Education Center” during the tenure of long-term former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

The center was renamed to the Center for Higher Secondary Education during 2001.

Resolving the issue of scarcity of space in government schools and providing an adequate environment for students reaching for success are pledges of the incumbent administration.
