The Ministry of Tourism has announced that a lagoon near Male' City known as "Dhiyanaru 2" has been allocated for safari boats to dock.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed, at the Maldives Boating Awards ceremony held on Monday.
While speaking at the ceremony, the minister stated that the ministry has received complaints regarding difficulties in docking safari's overnight near inhabited islands. Hence, "Dhiyanaru 2" lagoon will be available for safari boats to dock from next year onwards, said the minister.

According to the minister, this is the second attempt to issue the lagoon for safari boats to dock as the prior administration had previously leased the area to another third party.
He further stated that the current boating industry is the culmination of the hard work of a small number of people and that efforts will be undertaken to develop the industry further in the future. He also gave the assurance that the ministry will work towards finding better waste management methods on safari boats as well.
While 20 tourism regulations are set to be revised next year, this also includes regulations regarding the boating industry.
