A dead body has been found drifting in the lagoon near the Soneva Jani resort, in Noonu Atoll.
The police have confirmed that the incident was reported to them on Thursday.
The body found near Soneva Jani has a red string tied across the hip region.
The body reportedly has parts missing and photographs that circulated on social networking platforms suggest that it has been dated and therefore subject to decomposition.
