Two arrested for attempted rape in Gan
 
If the rape charges are proven against them, they could face a jail term of upto 15 years

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested two individuals in connection to a case of attempted rape in Gan island of Laamu atoll.

Speaking to media, police revealed that they received the report of two men entering a house on the island at around 02:30am on Tuesday and having attempted to rape the women inside the house.

Arrested were a 28-year-old and a 29-year-old, both Maldivians.

While investigations have been launched into the case, both men were arrested from inside the victims’ house.

Police are yet to divulge further details in connection to the attempted rape.

If the rape charges are proven against them, they could face a jail term between 10 – 15 years or seven to 10 years depending on the nature of the offense as defined under the law.
