VP Naseem urged the council to monitor the progress of the harbor development project in the island

Councilors from Guraidhoo island of Thaa atoll have on Thursday shared the challenges and unaddressed concerns facing the island community, with Vice President Faisal Naseem.

At a meeting at the President’s Office on Thursday, discussions were focused on development plans as well as the pressing issues of underdevelopment in the island.

While urgent needs of the community were also shared, the councilors stressed that they have been facing difficulties in using the island harbor as well as the current state of their ice plant.

Further, lack of equipment and facilities to provide emergency services, issues related to the inter-atoll ferry service and worries about soil erosion were also shared.

Noting that a harbor development project in Guraidhoo has been contracted, VP Naseem urged the council to monitor its progress once commenced.

VP Naseem went on to inquire the councilors about the island’s education system, pushing them to take measures to ensure children a cared for, better.

Having listened to their concerns, VP Naseem stated that the government will be taking the required action after thorough discussions are held with relevant ministries in order to address the issues at hand.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Guraidhoo Women’s Development Committee, who shared information on their work progress.
