Maldives is facing unimaginable misfortune, from which the only escape is ousting President Abdulla Yameen, said former MP Abdulla Jabir.

Jabir, also the newly appointed adviser to former President Mohamed Nasheed, said this in an interview to RaajjeMV from his home in Sri Lanka that he is committed to reform efforts in order to allow Maldivians to ‘breathe fresher air’.

“Maldivians are keenly awaiting a fairer and more just government, such a government can only come about in an environment conducive to it” Jabir said “To ensure this, to give our people a breath of fresh air, transforming the current political sphere imperative”.

The former MP also said that the members of parliament almost unanimously agree that the current government is ‘too desirous of financial gain’, which is ‘toxic for the nation’.

Jabir further said that President Yameen himself should be aware that he is no longer suitable for office, and that parliamentarians and the four opposition leaders are currently working to arrange his ousting within legal ambit.

“Many of the details are best kept undisclosed but I can say that the parliament is nearly ready to, in simple terms, ask President Yameen to stay home” Jabir continued.

He said he had financially aided President Yameen’s campaign during the 2013 elections but has since been discontent with its abuse of the private sector.

“We see businesses get attacked and robbed for no other reason than politics, we are seeing journalists and the free press getting fined, this is not something we should accept” he said.

Jabir said the government has proven itself to be a greedy and conniving one, adding that ‘it should not be allowed authority to govern’.
