Maldives is out of the SAFF U-18 Championship after losing to India in the semi-finals.
The Maldives under-18 football team lost the match held on Friday, with four goals to none.
The Indian team took the lead at the seventh minute of the game, with a goal from Narender Gahlot. The second one was an own goal by Maldives’ Ahnaf Rasheed, right of the stroke of half time. The third goal came at the 79th minute by Manvir Singh while Ninthoinganba Meetei further increased the lead at the 81st minute.
The Maldivian team had multiple opportunities to score, but failed.
With this win against Maldives, India confirmed its spot in the finals; and will play against Bangladesh.
While Maldives is out of the championship, the team is being praised for its performance; this is the first time that the team reached the semi finals in the SAFF U-18 Championship.
