Ministry signs contract to install incinerators in three islands

The Environment Ministry has signed a contract to install incinerators in three islands.

The contracts signed on Tuesday are to install incinerators for waste management in K. Maafushi, Gn. Fuvahmulah, and HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.

Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan signed the contract with Macstar Maldives Pvt Ltd.

The company is tasked with installing incinerators in Fuvahmulah and Kulhudhuffushi within 119 days for around MVR 2 million per each project. It is also tasked with installing an incinerator in Maafushi within 45 days for MVR 1.8 million.

The Ministry has stated that the projects will solve waste management issues in the islands by safely eliminating four tons of waste per day.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Kulhudhuffushi Council President Abdul Latheef Hassan said that their waste management issue has been getting worse in the past 20 years and that currently there are more than 115,000 tons of waste in the island’s landfill.
