Maldives placed fourth in the AVC Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship 2019.
The national team lost the match held to decide third place winners, against Turkmenistan on Friday.
The team lost in three straight sets; 25 to 20, 25 to 19 and 25 to 19.
The Maldivian team played a total of four matches in the tournaments; against host nation Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The national team took the second spot in its group – Group A with Nepal and Kyrgyzstan- and headed to the semi-finals against the top team from Group B; Uzbekistan.
Maldives lost its match against them in three straight sets- 25 to 20, 25 to 19 and 25 to 21- on Thursday.
Group A’s top team, Kyrgyzstan won its semi-final match against Turkmenistan, traveling to the finals against Uzbekistan.
Kyrgyzstan won the final match, held on Saturday, in three straight sets.
Prior to departing for the AVC championship, the Maldives team played two friendly games with the Sri Lankan national team.
The team participated in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2019, but was not able to win any games. Before IOIG 2019, the men's national volleyball team trained in Serbia.
While Maldives failed to secure any medals in the AVC Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship 2019, it has been announced that the 2020 AVC Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship will be held in Maldives.
