Fuvahmulah City Council has begun compiling a registry for expatriates living in the city.

The Council stated that their work is in accordance with Article 42 of the Decentralization Act, which requires councils to keep an expatriate registry.

Information of the expatriates in Fuvahmulah City will be uploaded to Haraheri, a web portal for city districts to store and organize their expatriate registries.

The Council stated that it requests employers to provide information of expatriates working in Fuvahmulah, before August 29, 2pm.

They also urged residents to support their efforts to compile the expatriate registry.

Maldives Immigration has stated that a total of 144,607 expatriate workers in the Maldives, and that 63,000 are undocumented.
