Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has neglected to vote for his own motion.

MP Jabir proposed the motion to privatize some state-owned companies on Monday.

The motion was rejected with 61 MPs voting against it. MP Jabir did not participate in the vote.

Proposing the motion, MP Jabir said that state-owned companies running a deficit should be discovered and prevented from affecting the government and the people. He said that, while the companies lose money, the governments use them to win political support.

MP Jabir highlighted that Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) continues to lose money while private companies in the fishing industry profit. He also said that citizens who have shares in Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) have also been losing money despite private tourism companies thriving in the industry.

MP Jabir said that the government should take responsibility for the losses incurred by the state-owned companies.
