Employees dismissed without the knowledge of CSC president

Members of the Civil Service Commission were presented to the parliament’s committee on independent institutions on Monday

Civil service employees had been dismissed without the knowledge of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) President Dr. Ali Shameem.

Shameem and other members of the commission were presented to the parliament’s committee on independent institutions on Monday; the second half of the meeting was held behind closed doors as requested by the commission president.

At the meeting, the CSC president said that all dismissal of civil service employees has to be approved by the commission but that there have been dismissals made without his knowledge.

Noting that seven employees were dismissed as such, Shameem said that the commission has worked to ensure them justice through the Employment Tribunal.

Furthermore, he said that the commission does not discriminate between employees, and that it always works “to treat all in a fair manner.”

At Monday’s meeting, Gan constituency MP Mohamed Wisam questioned whether the commission has faced any undue influence in the past.

All CSC members denied this, and noted that they have always worked “within the laws and regulations.”
