Environment Minister Dr Hussain Rasheed Hassan has inaugurated a water supply project in HDh Nolhivaranfaru.

The project is financed by the Green Climate Fund as free aid. The Fund will also finance water supply projects in B Dharanboodhoo, R Maduvvari, and Sh Foakaidhoo.

At the inauguration ceremony on Friday, Minister Hassan said that they will begin projects to store and use rain water as well as develop and improve water supply services in 25 islands, adding that other projects include helping improve utility companies, training programmes, and regulations.

The Green Fund gave the Maldives government MVR 24 million in 2017.

The Nolhivaranfaru water supply project was given to Canadian Crystalline Water India in November 2018 for MVR 32 million, to be completed in November 2019.

The company is to cut boreholes, lay pipes, establish water collection tanks and storage tanks, install a RO plant unit, and construct an administrative building with a laboratory.
