Ignoring criticism behind failure to reform judiciary: MP Hisaan
Hisaan criticized the Supreme Court justices for claiming that a foreign consultant hired by the AG had threatened them
She said that people who make statements the justices do not want to hear should not be labelled as bad people
She said that the recent formation of a judicial committee is the most significant step taken to solve the many problems in the legal sector

Reforming the courthouse has failed due to its refusal to accept criticism, says Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme on Tuesday night, Hisaan, a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), criticized the Supreme Court justices for claiming that Johann Kriegler, a retired South African justice hired as a consultant by the Attorney General’s office, had threatened them for saying that the courthouse should be overhauled.

Hisaan said that overhauling the courthouse has been talked about before and that people who make statements that the justices do not want to hear should not be labelled as bad people, adding that the justices themselves had admitted to the need for reform by publicizing their roadmap.

Highlighting the suspension of many attorneys last year, Hisaan said that she does not believe the Supreme Court’s roadmap is for judicial reform.

She said that the recent formation of a judicial committee is the most significant step taken to solve the many problems in the legal sector and that the committee’s mandate is to evaluate JSC’s action and hold it accountable.
