Reform work will not halt after Monday: Ali Niyaz
Speaker vote is the start
Government had rendered Councils ineffective

MDP Deputy Chairperson Ali Niyaz has stated that the reform movement initiated by the opposition will continue even after the no confidence motion vote on Monday 27th March.

Speaking in rally held Innamaadhoo Island in Raa Atoll for the Local Council Elections, Niyaz said that the biggest names in politics are now united in the will to bring reform and change to the nation. As such he assured that this initiative will not fail after the vote on Monday.

“Our work will not cease after Monday’s vote. Yesterday, the biggest four names in politics, [four] who are loved by the public, signed to bring in beneficial changes for public. So this is not something that will cease after Monday. The four leaders will work tirelessly and in unity until we succeed, we have that guarantee,” he said.

Niyaz said the decentralization act was one piece of legislature on which multiple changes had been brought in, resulting in lack of empowerment for Councils.

“The decentralization act is one law on which many many changes were brought in. By this Government. none of those changes benefit citizens. None of the changes gives you any power, none of them gives you any control. If anything control has been taken away. We cannot run a decentralized system with people who have that view,” Niyaz added.

He further added that it was essential to elect candidates backed by MUO in order defeat this view.

Niyaz had severely criticized the Government for their policies and efforts to negate the decentralized system.
