Thulhaadhoo constituency MP Hisaan Hussain has proposed three amendments to presidential commissions bill.

Presidential commissions are formed under the powers and responsibilities granted to the parliament, under Article 115 of the Constitution. The president also has the power to abolish these commissions.

MP Hisaan made the proposals at Monday’s sitting, including specifying an institution to overtake the commission’s incomplete tasks, and to maintain the credibility of the work done.

“This is to ensure that the commission’s resources, the state’s resources, do not go to waste"
MP Hisaan

Further noting that presidential commissions have the powers granted under the Criminal Procedure Act, Hisaan said that a commission must be given the capacity to use them in their tasks.

The Presidential Commission bill was submitted to the parliament floor by Alifushi constituency MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain. He had submitted the same bill to parliament during its previous tenure, four times, but a vote is yet to be taken.
