Grounded oil barge in Kaashidhoo refloated

The 100-foot barge was grounded on the eastern side of Kaashidhoo

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has stated that the oil barge grounded in Kaashidhoo has been refloated.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, MNDF’s media officer said Fuel Supply Maldives’ barge was refloated on Saturday at 11:22am.

He confirmed that no oil was spilled during the refloating process and the barge remains undamaged.

Kaashidhoo Council has also confirmed to RaajjeMV that the island has been unaffected by spills during MNDF’s efforts to funnel the oil from the barge.

The 100-foot barge was grounded on the eastern side of Kaashidhoo while carrying 27,000 liters of petrol and 180,000 liters of diesel. None of the six Maldivians onboard were injured in the incident.
