Rescue officers looking for the landing craft that went missing while traveling to Laamu atoll have sighted an oil slick and some debris. 

The debris was sighted 50 nautical miles north-east of Isdhoo island in Laamu atoll by officers aboard a Trans Maldivian Airways seaplane on Friday, a few hours after they had been deployed. 

Ibrahim Azim, the Maldives National Defence Force’s (MNDF) information officer, said that given that the debris and oil slick were sighted by an aircraft, officers are yet unsure if they belong to the missing vessel. 

On Friday, rescue officers onboard a Trans Maldivian Airways flight along with the MNDF’s CGS Huravee helicopter have been patrolling through air in search of the vessel. Further, two fast interception boats have been conducting their search on sea.

There were two Maldivian onboard, and four foreign individuals whose nationalities have not be specified.
