EC to publicize party audit reports and candidate financial statements

He said they will not be publicizing the financial statements of candidates in the presidential election

EC Spokesperson said that they will be uploading the financial statements on their official website

347 candidates have filed their financial statements within the deadline

Elections Commission (EC) has decided to publicize the audit reports of political parties and financial statements of parliamentary candidates.

347 candidates have filed their financial statements within the deadline, out of 386.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee show, EC Spokesperson Ahmed Akram said that they will be uploading the financial statements on their official website and that the public will be able to confirm for themselves whether the candidates’ expenditure and financial statement match.

Akram said that they will not be publicizing the financial statements of candidates in the presidential election – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former President Abdulla Yameen – as they are still evaluating the statements.

He said that EC will also publicize the audit and yearly reports filed by the parties.

While there are nine registered political parties, details of their state fund expenditure have never before been publicized.
