No link has been found between the 50kg drugs found in an Iranian boat and the 149kg drugs found in an uninhabited island, states the police service.
The 149kg drugs were found buried in an uninhabited island in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll.
An Iranian boat was captured while trespassing in Maldivian waters, and a search found 50kg of drugs inside. The police stated that there were also empty compartments leading them to suspect that it had been carrying more drugs.
Head of Drug Enforcement Ahmed Shakir said they suspect that the two cases are linked but have so far found no evidence for it and that they cannot confirm who is behind the drugs buried in the island but that the investigation is still ongoing.
The police have stated that the operation that led to the drugs in the uninhabited island began after they received report of a speedboat carrying drugs 150 miles outside of Maldivian waters. Five suspects have been arrested in the case.
