President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that his administration gives special priority to enacting child protection laws.
In his address on National Children’s Day, President Solih said that his administration wants every Maldivian child to grow up with familial love and affection.
Noting that the protections children have in Maldives are better than in other regional countries, President Solih said that the government still needs to make improvements and that therefore his administration is currently working to strengthen the rights of children.
President Solih highlighted the importance of maintaining children’s mental and physical health and vowed to bring better changes in the near future including improving their education.
He said that it was important to develop a healthy young generation by monitoring children’s health through the education system and that parents are responsible for protecting their children from unhealthy food and products.
He also said that a healthy family can only be built by educating children according to Islamic principles.
