NCTC said that Adaaran Resorts - Maldives had requested the meeting

The National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) has met with a team from Adaaran Resorts - Maldives, “to discuss security measures in the tourism sector.”

The meeting took place on Tuesday morning, with NCTC’s director general Zakariyya Mansoor in attendance.

NCTC said that Adaaran Resorts had requested the meeting, adding that it “routinely meets with stakeholders from the private sector to discuss relevant concerns.”

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s spokesperson, Captain Ibrahim Azim told RaajjeMV that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to strengthen security measures within the tourism sector.

Further noting that there has been an increase in attacks targeting tourists, around the world, Azim said that both parties had also discussed on whether resorts are taking the necessary precautions to ensure that tourists are safe.

MNDF had recently conducted training programmes in capital Malé City.

Following the terror attack that shook neighboring Sri Lanka in April, authorities have strengthened Maldives’ border security measures.
