MTCC drops Villimale ferry terminal project

MVR 28 mil spent on the project thus far

Maldives Transporting and Contracting Company (MTCC) has decided to not proceed with the construction plan of the new Villimale Ferry Terminal.

The construction of the new terminal was contracted during the previous administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

Following the contract, MTCC had initially vacated the plot of land and constructed a temporary terminal.

The blue print of the 12-storey building alone cost MVR 500,000 and MTCC was given MVR 17 million as advance payment for the project.

MTCC Managing Director Hassan Shah said that the construction of tall buildings is not supported by the current administration.

He also revealed that the decision comes as another development project is underway to link the capital city, Villimale and Thilafushi with bridges.

Work to vacate the plot of land in which the new terminal was to be built, began in 2016.
