A young man has been stabbed near the Villimalé ferry terminal in Maafannu on capital city Malé.

A source from the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital has confirmed that an individual has been brought in with stab wounds and is being treated in the emergency unit.

The source further said that he was ‘seemingly’ stabbed thrice in the back, and that he had been wrapped in cloth when brought in.

A witness from reported that the individual was stabbed as he deboarded the ferry, and was with his family at the time. The witness further said that the individual, who appeared to be as young as just 18-years-old, was with members of his family.

The assault occurred at around 22:00 on Monday.
