Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert following the prediction of severe weather across the entirety of the Maldives.
While the white alert was issued from Raa atoll to Thaa atoll on Saturday, heavy rains and torrential thunderstorms are expected across the region from 4:30pm to 8:30pm on Saturday.
This is the second white alert issued over regions of the Maldives on Saturday, the first one having been issued in the early hours, until afternoon, between Raa atoll and southernmost Addu City.
Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) predicts heavy showers and thunderstorms across the country, with swell waves expected during high tide times in central and southern atolls.
Deputy Forecaster Khadheeja Nusra revealed that torrential rains are expected across Maldives for the next few days and the MET office cautions all parties to be extra vigilant and take necessary precautions due to choppy sea conditions and strong winds.
Severe weather began prevailing over the Maldives after a drawn-out dry season ended after months of scorching hot weather, last week. The heat wave across the nation had resulted in an unbearable temperature rise forcing people to mostly stay indoors.
