Ex-Ministers Shareef and Saeed are facing ‘grave allegations’: Mahfooz
Mahfooz said this in an interview with Raajje Television on Monday
Mahfooz did not specify or elaborate on his claims

Former ministers Adam Shareef and Mohamed Saeed are facing grave allegations and ‘should be investigated’, says lawyer Mahfooz Saeed.

Mahfooz, who rose to prominence as a member of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party leader Mohamed Nasheed’s legal team, said this in an interview with Raajje Television on Tuesday.

In Tuesday’s interview, Mahfooz said that the opposition must set aside their ‘old leadership, and establish a new one’ in order function democratically.

Mahfooz said that both ministers, who were victorious in their bid for election in parliamentary elections held on Saturday, must be investigated by the ‘new leadership’.

While Mahfooz did not specify or elaborate on his claims, former president Abdulla Yameen has been indicted on money laundering charges and senior members of his government are accused of being culpable.

The Yameen administration has also been accused of undermining the rule of law, influencing independent institutions and the judiciary.
