The state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will be introducing a ‘software’ to ease the current situation of having to wait hours in queue to see a doctor, the hospital says.

IGMH CEO Ibrahim Saleem said in an interview with RaajjeMV on Friday that the software will be introduced in line with the government’s first 100-day pledges.

Saleem said that the hospital has been reviewing the queueing system every three months.

IGMH has found that several patients make appointments with the hospital that they do not keep, but do not cancel. This has aggravated the situation, Saleem says.

Under the new software, patients will be given a 72-hour period to reconfirm their appointment, and a message will be sent to them when their token number is about to be served.

IGMH provides service to 4,000 patients a day, and patients having to wait hours to receive emergency treatment has been a contentious issue previously as well.

Saleem further said in Friday’s interview that the situation will further be eased after opening of the Dharumavantha Hospital, a 25-storey extension to IGMH’s premises.
