Court concludes hearings in Yameen's appeal case
However, the Court is yet to set a date for the verdict hearing

High Court has on Tuesday concluded the hearings in the appeal case filed by former President Abdulla Yameen, over his recent arrest and remand.

However, the Court is yet to set a date for the verdict hearing.

All hearings in the appeal case were held behind closed doors.

Criminal Court, at a hearing open to the public, ordered the former president's arrest on February 18; following the Prosecutor General's request to do so over claims of 'witness tampering.'

The lower court also ordered to keep him remand for the remainder of his trial on money laundering allegations.

Yameen appealed the detention order on February 19, claiming that he was arrested 'unlawfully.'

He is accused of being involved in the biggest corruption scandal in the country’s history, and was questioned by police twice since his defeat in last year’s presidential elections.

Police is also seeking an additional charge against the country’s former leader, for providing false statements to the anti-corruption watchdog during the investigation.

The PG office assures that all hearings in the case 'will be open to the public.'
