National Integrity Commission (NIC) has refuted a recent report claiming that jailed former president Abdulla Yameen is suffering from food poisoning.
Yameen has been hospitalized three times since he was detained for the rest of his trial over money-laundering.
While the report cited Yameen's family saying that he is suffering from food poisoning, in a press release on Friday, NIC stated that Yameen’s family has denied the report’s claim.
NIC stated that it has visited Yameen after the report was publicized and that it has found that he is not suffering from food poisoning and has also not sought treatment over such an ailment.
NIC cited Yameen saying that he has no complaints regarding the correctional service.
NIC also stated that it aims to increase public trust on the executive branch and that it is concerned over the report for making false claims regarding the conduct of the correctional service.
