More women would join the military if they were aware of the opportunities, says Defence Minister Mariya Didi.
She said this on the 30th anniversary of women serving in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Friday.
Minister Mariya said that she is pleased that the defence force is recruiting more women and expressed hope that they will educate them on the opportunities they have in the military.
She praised the first female military officers for setting an excellent example and paving way for more women to enlist in the defence force.
Highlighting the importance of equal representation of women in the military, Minister Mariya said that the number of female officers is still too low.
The defence force will be holding a special ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of women serving in the military on Friday night.
