South Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed stated that he withdrew the no-confidence motion against Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham because it was at a standstill.
RaajjeMV has received the letter MP Abdulla sent to the speaker on Wednesday, requesting to withdraw the motion.
In the letter, he said that it has been too long since the motion was sent to the committee on independent institutions, which has been ignoring the motion while proceeding with other cases.
He said that he proposed the motion after failing to convince the government coalition’s parliamentary group and that he had even discussed the motion with group leader Abdulla Riyaz and the committee’s chair.
PG Bisham has been accused of unlawfully prosecuting opposition lawmakers during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.
This the second time that an impeachment motion against her has been withdrawn.
