Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has begun a search for a 16-year-old girl who went missing at sea after her dingy overturned while travelling from L. Fonadhoo on Friday evening.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, the council of Maamendhoo, where the girl is from, stated that it has been three hours since she has gone missing.

Council Vice President Hussain Khabeeb said the girl, who is a student at the Maamendhoo school, took a flight from Male’ to Fonadhoo earlier on Friday and was travelling to Maamendhoo on the dingy, which was being driven by a boy from L. Gan.

After the incident, the boy had placed her on top of the overturned dingy and swam to Six Senses resort.

The MNDF is now searching the girl with help from nearby resort staff and island residents.
