Former Kurendhoo MP Ahmed Moosa has announced his decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election.

Moosa, who is a council member of Jumhooree Party, said he relinquished the party ticket because he believes it was best that he run as an independent.

Ruling Maldivian Democratic Party and main opposition Progressive Party of Maldives are also contesting the Kurendhoo seat in April’s election.

Moosa, who won the Kurendhoo seat in 2009 after running as an independent, said that he will always support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The current Kurendhoo MP is MDP’s Abdul Bari Abdulla, who is not running in this year’s election.
