State Bank of India (SBI) has been known to play an important role in providing support and managing finances for local businesses and locals, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Speaking at the function held at Kurumba Maldives in commemoration of SBI’s 45th Anniversary on Saturday night, President Solih went on to congratulate the management, employees and shareholders of the bank for having provided their services for 45 years, their services having begun when banking services had not been established in the Maldives.
Having opened their first branch 45 years ago, SBI was the only bank that was operating in the Maldives when the tourism industry became active, said the President.
President Solih appreciated and expressed his gratitude for the “significant contribution” the bank has made to the overall development of Maldivian banking and finance sector.
Emphasizing on the bank’s role in helping Maldivian businesses on their success journey is immense, President Solih thanked the bank for stepping up to empower local communities to speak out in how they are governed and to take on development challenges at the community level.
Further, President Solih also noted that the bank’s establishment in the country is a symbol of the “warm relations” shared between Maldives and India.
The President was also awarded a special commemorative plaque during the function.
