Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has met with Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla to discuss the worrying increase of cases of abuse and neglect.

The gender ministry stated that minister Shidhatha had conveyed her worry over the increase of cases regarding the abuse of women, children, and the elderly.

At the meeting, Shidhatha highlighted that it was the responsibility of the ministry to protect the rights of those most vulnerable in society and that therefore they should investigate and seek justice in these cases.

The ministers also discussed ways to prevent children from being used in gang crimes.

Minister Imran has assured that the home ministry will give its full support in the gender ministry’s efforts to decrease cases of abuse and neglect.
