A woman from Gadhdhoo island in Gaafu Dhaal atoll has narrowly survived an attempt at self-immolation, RaajjeMV has learned.

The island’s local government council confirms this, and says that they are yet unable to transfer her to capital city Malé for treatment.

Council member Amir Abdulla says that the atoll hospital informed the council that over 70 percent of body had sustained burn injuries.

The woman, reported to a mother of two young children, is receiving treatment at the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Her children are aged three and seven-years-old.
