Over 100 officers are operating in Bileddhoo Island, Faafu Atoll, to quell Friday’s opposition efforts to hold a demonstration against government plans to initiate a massive project in the region.

The RaajjeMV crew in Bileddhoo reported that officers have arrested five individuals and searched every vessel docked at the island’s harbour. Among the arrested are three men and two women.

Reportedly, officers had confiscated pieces of fabric found in said vessels.

The police have issued a warning against vocalizing any sentiments against the government, while those gathered to demonstrate maintain that their actions have been peaceful and in accordance to the law.
